Help us raise $5,000 for Children’s Colorado Hospital
As a family photographer working with children, I am so lucky to see the wonders and joy of being a happy and healthy child. However, not every child has it quite so easy as most of the children I work with. That is where the amazing Children’s Colorado comes in. They do an amazing job caring exclusively for children with ailments as minor as a sprain to very serious conditions. I really wanted to find a small way to give back to this fantastic organization.
This winter, we are trying to raise $5,000 for the Children’s Colorado. From now through March 31st, 100% of our creative fees and 10% of all sales will be donated to Children’s Hospital Colorado. Just by booking a session this winter, you are helping achieve our goals. Not only will you receive the gift of heirloom quality portraits, but you will be helping some fantastic children as well.
In addition, there will be a couple of limited edition sessions that will be offered before March 31st. For just a handful of people lucky to book them first, they will have that entire package value donated towards our goal of donating $5,000 to Children’s Hospital.
Thank you very much for supporting such a great hospital!

One organization that I’m really excited about is Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence. SPAN is a human rights organization committed to ending violence against adults, youth and children through support, advocacy, education and community organizing. Their services are both important and in much demand.
Like any organization that provides help to the people that really need it, they rely on the giving of others to keep them moving forward. This February they are having a tremendous event – The 31st Annual Chocolate Lover’s Fling. For just $125 per ticket, you get a fabulous evening:
“We are planning a great event this year and one of the major components will be pairings of wine, sparkling wine and port with many different varieties of chocolate. Mingle, taste and take some time to browse our silent auction items before heading into the ballroom for a live auction and dancing.”
Your ticket to the 2012 Chocolate Lovers’ Fling Gala includes…
• Unlimited appetizer and tapas stations
• Unlimited chocolate
• Beer & wine tasting
• Signature souvenir 2012 Fling tasting glass sponsored by Liquor Mart
• Access to the silent auction, live auction and paddle raiser
• An evening of dancing and music
All the details are here: http://www.active.com/more-sports-conference/boulder-co/31st-annual-chocolate-lovers%E2%80%99-fling-2012
As our way of showing our support for this amazing organization, we have donated a complete fine-art portrait package worth $1,999 for the live auction, and two $300 gift certificates for the silent auction. Please show your support by getting your tickets and bidding aggressively on all the great items that will be available.
One thing I haven’t even shared with SPAN yet – I will increase the donated portrait package to match the winning bid – so if it sells for $3,000, $4,000 or $5,000 I will increase the product and services to match! We have some amazing products that the winning bidder will be absolutely thrilled with.
Below is a letter I received from Samantha Biles, one of the local Colorado children that will benefit from my bail money, and the spokesperson for the event. Please read the below, and either take advantage of the few available portrait sessions left, or give whatever you can.

Link to make a donation: Help pay my bail and send Samantha to camp one more time.I am Samantha Biles. I am 13 years old and have Myasthenia Gravis, that is where my muscle and nerves don’t communicate to each other and I get weak fast. I was diagnosed with this about a year ago; and last summer was my first year at MDA camp when I was still taking the steroids and going to that camp was a life changing experience for me. Going to this camp you don’t feel like a outsider you could call it, or out of the shadows. I saw people that had more serious problems then 1 did and it made me learn that I should not be feeling sorry for myself but for other people. My favorite part about camp is that you meet so many friends. I love all the activities you do; like, swimming. There is not a thing that I would change about camp; it is just a breath taking time. I would only change it to be 2 weeks, one week is not enough time to have fun ha-ha. I just want to say thank you so much for all your hard work for making money and donating to MDA. Thank you for taking the time to read this note, hope you have a good day. May God bless you. From, Samantha Biles.
The law caught up with me & on July 14th, I’m going behind bars for GOOD; a good cause that is! I am serving time in MDA jail, and I desperately need YOUR help to bail me out. Bail me out and, best of all, help over 1,500 families in Colorado who are served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Your contribution does make a difference!
So far, people have been giving, but not enough. So here is an amazing offer to help out the NoCo MDA:
I am offering a very limited edition session that includes a full 1 hour studio or location shoot, and an 11″ x 14″ wall portrait for $400 – and every penny goes to the MDA! The normal price for this package is $695. Not only do you save $295, but every penny goes to helping kids that need our help. Best of all, because you are making the donation yourself, the donation is tax deductible!
Here’s the catch: There are only 6 of these sessions available, and you must reserve the package (by donating the $400 using the link below) by July 13th.
https://www.joinmda.org/2011boulderlockup/matt – It is secure, fast, tax deductible and this is your opportunity to help provide local programs and services funded by MDA.
These six sessions will send 3 special children to camp for a week – and these kids deserve a week of fun and a camp that cater to their special needs. It’s a great reason to get an updated family portrait or to celebrate your children at this time of their life.
Even if you don’t get one of these packages, please think about making a donation to these kids, regardless of how small it may be.
- $30- sponsors a flu shot
- $100- funds a support group session for MDA families
- $300- covers the professional fees related to an initial diagnostic work-up at an MDA clinic
- $500- supports the maintenance and repair of a client wheelchair or leg braces
- $800- sends one child to summer camp for an entire week
Thanks so much for your help. Together, we can make a difference!
Towards a cure,
Matt Davies has become an affiliated photographer of Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. This amazing organization provides an incredibly valuable service, and is completely volunteer. Photographers, digital retouchers and others give their time and expertise freely in a person’s most dire time. The organization is best described right from it’s website:
Pregnancy and birth are miraculous journeys. This amazing time of life is full of mystery, anticipation, joy, hope, and wonder. Feeling the powerful energy of birth and new life, watching as a new family is born unto each other. These things humble and amaze. These are the things that we celebrate when a baby is born.
But there is another aspect of pregnancy and birth. There is an unexpected place in this journey where some families may find themselves. When a baby dies, a world is turned upside down. There is confusion, sadness, fear, and uncertainty that cannot be explained. There is sorrow where there should have been joy. During this time, it might be impossible for families to know what they might need in order to heal in the future.
This is the place where the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation gently provides a helping hand and a healing heart. For families overcome by grief and pain, the idea of photographing their baby may not immediately occur to them. Offering gentle and beautiful photography services in a compassionate and sensitive manner is the heart of this organization. The soft, gentle heirloom photographs of these beautiful babies are an important part of the healing process. They allow families to honor and cherish their babies, and share the spirits of their lives. The NILMDTS mission statement is to introduce remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with the gift of professional portraiture. We believe these images serve as an important step in the family’s healing process by honoring their child’s legacy.
The Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation (NILMDTS) administers a network of more than 7,000 volunteer photographers in the United States and 25 countries. At a family’s request, a NILMDTS Affiliated Photographer will come to your hospital or hospice location and conduct a sensitive and private portrait session. The portraits are then professionally retouched and presented to the families on an archival DVD or CD that can be used to print portraits of their cherished baby.
Our entire network of affiliated photographers graciously donate their time and talents to our families and we are proud to be able to offer our services at no cost. Your Donations are greatly needed and greatly appreciated.
We are proud to be a volunteer for this charity and to welcome it into our community involvement. To see all of our involvement in Boulder, please visit our new Community page.
